Sir James Scrymgeour was the son of John Scrymgeour and Margaret Campbell.2 He married Margaret Carnegie, daughter of Sir Robert Carnegie of Kinnaird and Margaret Guthrie.1 He died on 13 July 1612.1
Sir James Scrymgeour lived at Dudhope, Forfarshire, Scotland.1 He held the office of Provost of Dundee in 1588.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1589 on his return from Denmark with embassy which negotiated marriage of the Danish Princess Anne to King James VI.1 In 1600 he was confirmed by Act of Parliament, together with his heirs male, as bearer of the King's standard on all occassions, both on horse and foot.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dundee in 1600.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dundee in 1605.1

James Scrymgeour, 2nd Viscount Dudhope was the son of John Scrymgeour, 1st Viscount Dudhope and Margaret Seton.2 He married Lady Isabella Ker, daughter of Sir Robert Kerr, 1st Earl of Roxburghe, on 4 August 1618.1 He died in 1644, killed in action.1
