Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope was born on 15 August 1714. He was the son of James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope and Lucy Pitt.1 He married Grizel Hamilton, daughter of Charles Hamilton, Lord Binning and Rachel Baillie, on 25 July 1745. He died on 7 March 1786 at age 71.
