John Henry Scott, 3rd Earl of Clonmell was born on 4 January 1817 at Hertford Street, Mayfair, London, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Scott, 2nd Earl of Clonmell and Lady Henrietta Louisa Greville.1 He married Hon. Anne de Burgh, daughter of Ulysses Burgh, 2nd Baron Downes of Aghanville and Maria Bagenal, on 27 April 1838 at Kilberry Church, County Laois, Ireland.1,2 He died on 7 February 1866 at age 49 at Bishop's Court, County Kildare, Ireland, from bronchitis.1,2
He was educated between 1832 and 1834 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2,3 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Clonmell, co. Tipperary [I., 1793] on 18 January 1838.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Viscount Clonmell [I., 1789] on 18 January 1838.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Earlsfort of Lisson-Earl, co. Tipperary [I., 1784] on 18 January 1838.1 He had a third younger son (died young) and two other daughters.1
