     Sir John Melville held the office of Captain-General of Dunbar Castle.1 He held the office of Master-General of Ordnance.1 He lived at Raith, Fife, Scotland.1

     Alexander Melville, Lord Raith was born on 23 December 1655.1 He was the son of George Melville, 1st Earl of Melville and Catharine Leslie.1 A contract for the marriage of Alexander Melville, Lord Raith and Barbara Dundas was signed on 27 August 1689.2 He died on 27 March 1698 at age 42, without issue.1
     Alexander Melville, Lord Raith was styled as Lord Raith between 1690 and 1698.1 He held the office of Treasurer Depute [Scotland].1
