General Sir John Slade, 1st Bt. was born on 31 December 1762.3 He is the son of John Slade and Charlotte Portal.2 He married, firstly, Anna Eliza Dawson, daughter of James Dawson, on 20 September 1792.3 He married, secondly, Matilda Ellen Dawson, daughter of James Dawson and Olivia Daly, on 17 June 1822.4 He died in 1859.5
General Sir John Slade, 1st Bt. gained the rank of Cornet in 1780 in the service of the 10th Hussars.3 He was General Equerrry to the Duke of Cumberland in 1800.3 He was commander of the Cavalry Brigade between 1809 and 1813.3 He fought in the Battle of Corunna in 1812.3 He fought in the Battle of Fuentes d'Onoro.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 4th Dragoon Guards.3 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.).1 He was created 1st Baronet Slade, of Maunsel House, Somerset [U.K.] on 30 September 1831.3
