Lt.-Col. William Hicks Slade was born on 9 December 1829.3 He was the son of General Sir John Slade, 1st Bt. and Matilda Ellen Dawson.2 He married Cecilia Louisa Des Voeux, daughter of Sir Charles Des Voeux, 2nd Bt. and Christina Hird, on 30 July 1861.1 He died on 28 July 1884 at age 54.1
