General Sir Peregrine Maitland was the son of Thomas Maitland and Eliza Mathew.2 He married, firstly, Hon. Harriet Louisa Crofton, daughter of Sir Edward Crofton, 2nd Bt. and Anne Croker, Baroness Crofton of Mote, in 1803.3 He married, secondly, Lady Sarah Lennox, daughter of General Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond and Lady Charlotte Gordon, on 9 October 1815.2 He died in 1854.2
General Sir Peregrine Maitland was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.).1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Madras Army.2 He held the office of Governor of the Cape of Good Hope.1
