     Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand was born on 22 January 1917.3 He was the son of Philip Morton Shand and Edith Marguerite Harrington.1,2 He married Hon. Rosalind Maud Cubitt, daughter of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel, on 2 January 1946.1 He died on 11 June 2006 at age 89.3
     Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.3 He was commissioned in 1937 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the 12th Royal Lancers.3 He fought in the Second World War, where h was wounded, and became a POW in 1942.3 He gained the rank of Major in 1942 in the service of the 12th Royal Lancers.1 He was decorated with the Military Cross (M.C.) (and bar) in 1942.1 He retired from the military in 1947.3 He was Joint Master of the Foxhunds for Southdown between 1956 and 1975.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Sussex in 1962.3 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex between 1974 and 1992.1

     Hon. Rosalind Maud Cubitt was born on 11 August 1921.1 She was the daughter of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel.1 She married Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand, son of Philip Morton Shand and Edith Marguerite Harrington, on 2 January 1946.1 She died on 14 July 1994 at age 72 at Sussex, England, from osteoporosis.1,3
     Her married name became Shand.
