Sir Herbert Frederick Cook, 3rd Bt. was born on 18 November 1868.3 He is the son of Sir Frederick Lucas Cook, 2nd Bt. and Mary Anne Elizabeth Cotton.2 He married Hon. Mary Hood, daughter of Arthur Wellington Alexander Nelson Hood, 2nd Viscount Bridport of Cricket St. Thomas and Lady Maria Georgiana Julia Fox-Strangways, on 21 April 1898.1 He died on 4 May 1939 at age 70.3
Sir Herbert Frederick Cook, 3rd Bt. was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.3 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).3 He was a practising barrister.3 He was trustee of the National Portrait Gallery between 1916 and 1930.3 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Cook, of Doughty House, Richmond, Surrey [U.K., 1886] on 21 May 1920.3 He was trustee of the National Gallery between 1923 and 1930.3 He succeeded to the title of 3° Visconde de Monserrate, Cintra [Portugal] on 21 May 1930.3 He was chairman of Cook, Son & Company (St Paul's) Ltd.3 He wrote the book Giorgione, Reviews and Appreciations, and other works on art criticism, published 1931.3
