     Hon. Charles Barclay-Maitland of Tillicoultrie was born circa 1720. He was the son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.2,3 He married, firstly, Isabel Barclay of Towie, daughter of Sir Alexander Barclay of Towie, 1st Bt. and Helen Duff.4 He married, secondly, Margaret Haldane, daughter of Patrick Haldane, 16th of Gleneagles and Margaret Forrester, on 14 April 1765.5 He married, thirdly, Janet Moncrieffe, daughter of Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Margaret Smythe, on 11 February 1768.6 He died on 28 November 1795.1
     Hon. Charles Barclay-Maitland of Tillicoultrie was baptised with the name of Charles Maitland.4 His name was legally changed to Charles Barclay-Maitland.1 He had three other daughters by his first wife.2
