     Ada Twyford Simpson was the daughter of Reverend Henry Trail Simpson.1 She married Lt.-Col. Frederick Henry Maitland, 13th Earl of Lauderdale, son of Maj.-Gen. Frederick Colthurst Maitland and Ann Deering Williams, in 1883.1 She died on 14 September 1931.1
     Her married name became Maitland. As a result of her marriage, Ada Twyford Simpson was styled as Countess of Lauderdale on 13 August 1884.

     Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland was born on 10 February 1724.1 He was the son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.1 He married Mary McAdam on 11 July 1772 at New York, U.S.A..1 He died on 13 July 1772 at age 48.1
     Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland was commissioned in 1743, in the service of the British Army.1 He fought in the Capture of Quebec in 1759.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1759.1 He was Deputy Adjutant-General of the Quebec in 1760.1 He was Deputy Adjutant-General of the North America in 1764.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1772.1

     Harriot Bower was the daughter of John Bower.1 She married, firstly, Richard Maitland, son of Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland and Mary McAdam, on 26 February 1789.1 She married, secondly, Powles Harrison on 12 May 1804.1 She died in June 1845.1
     From 26 February 1789, her married name became Maitland. From 12 May 1804, her married name became Harrison.

     Patrick Maitland was born in 1770.1 He was the son of Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland and Mary McAdam.1 He married Anne Bateman, daughter of Colthurst Bateman, on 28 February 1807.1 He died on 29 January 1821.1
     Patrick Maitland was a partner of John Palmer & Company, bankers at Calcutta, India.1 He lived at Kilmaron Castle, Fife, Scotland.1 In 1885 the House of Lord Committe of Privileges decided that his parent's subsequent marriage legitimated his birth under Scots law.1
