Richard Barry was the son of Sir James Fitz Richard Barry, 4th Viscount Barry and Ellen MacCarthy.1 He died on 24 April 1622 at Liscarroll, Ireland, without issue.1
On 10 April 1581 he should have become the 5th Viscount Barry and 18th Lord Barry, but he was passed over in the succession because he was deaf and dumb.1

David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry was the son of Sir James Fitz Richard Barry, 4th Viscount Barry and Ellen MacCarthy.1 He married, secondly, Julia MacCarthy, daughter of Cormac MacCarthy.1 He married, firstly, Ellen Roche, daughter of David Roche, 5th Viscount Roche of Fermoy and Ellen Butler, before October 1593.1 He died on 10 April 1617 at Barry Court, County Cork, Ireland.1
David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry succeeded to the title of 18th Lord Barry [I., c. 1261] on 10 April 1581.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Viscount Barry [I., 1541] on 10 April 1581.1 Before 1599 he joined Desmond's rebellion, but then abandoned the rebel cause.1 In 1602 he commanded 1,600 men.1 On 15 November 1602 he was pardoned.1 He held the office of Member of the Council of the province of Munster on 20 May 1615.1
