     Admiral John Amherst was baptised on 6 January 1717/18.2 He was the son of Jeffrey Amherst and Elizabeth Kerrill.1 He married Ann Lindzee, daughter of Thomas Lindzee.2 He died on 14 February 1778 at age 60 at Gosport, Hampshire, England, without issue.1 He was buried at Sevenoaks, Kent, England.1
     He gained the rank of Midshipman in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant.1 He gained the rank of Captain in December 1744.1 He was Captain of the 64 gun ship, H.M.S. Mars in 1753.1 He was Captain of the 50 gun ship, H.M.S. Deptford in 1756.1 He was Captain of the 64 gun ship, H.M.S. Captain.1 He was Captain of the 71 gun ship, H.M.S.
