John Colquhoun was born on 6 March 1805.1 He was the son of Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, 3rd Bt. and Janet Sinclair.2 He married Frances Sarah Maitland, daughter of Ebenezer Fuller Maitland, on 29 January 1834.1 He died in 1885.1
John Colquhoun gained the rank of officer in the service of the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards.1 He wrote the book The Moor and the Loch.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1
