     He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Somerset.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1902.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Viscount Garmoyle, co. Antrim [U.K., 1878] on 14 January 1905.2 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Cairns of Garmoyle, co.
