Maj.-Gen. David Crichton was the son of Abraham Crichton and Mary Spottiswoode.1 He married Katherine Southwell, daughter of Richard Southwell and Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, before 1695.1 He died on 1 June 1728.1
In 1689 he helped defend Crom Castle.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Agher, County Tyrone in 1695.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lifford between 1695 and 1728.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He lived at Crom Castle, County Fermanagh, Ireland.1
