     He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of officer in the service of the Canadian Engineers.1 He fought in the Lieutenant, Royal Navy.1

     Maud Eleonora Hardy was the daughter of Colonel John Hardy. She married Lt.-Col. Frank Douglas-Pennant, 5th Baron Penrhyn of Llandegai, son of Lt.-Col. Hon. Archibald Charles Henry Douglas-Pennant and Hon. Harriet Ella Gifford, on 25 April 1892.1 She and Lt.-Col. Frank Douglas-Pennant, 5th Baron Penrhyn of Llandegai were divorced in 1903.1 She died on 12 December 1936.1
      From 25 April 1892, her married name became Douglas-Pennant.1

     He was Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He was Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1916.1 He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.1 He was Brigadier-General Grenadier Gds, commander Br Mil Mission to USA , Gentleman Usher to HM KING GEORGE V 1919, Groom-in-Waiting 1920 and Extra Equerry to HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES 1925, Aide-de-Camp to Govr-Gen of Canada in 1917.1 He was Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1926.1
