Harriet Katherine Townshend.¹ He married Lady Charlotte Anne Thynne, daughter of Sir Thomas Thynne, 2nd Marquess of Bath and Hon. Isabella Elizabeth Byng, on 13 August 1829 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England.¹ He died on 16 April 1884 at age 77 at Bowhill, Selkirkshire, Scotland.¹ He was buried on 23 April 1884 at St. Mary's Chapel, Dalkeith, Scotland.¹ His will was probated on 30 October 1884, with a total over £910,000.²

The heart is excellent, so are the talents... With perfect good nature, he has a natural sense of his own situation, which will keep him from associating with unworthy companions."¹ Notes from the Life of an Ordinary Mortal records that "his great position and vast estates made him something of a grand seigneur, though his habits were simple, and his appearance rather that of an Elder of the Kirk. He always wore a dark grey cutaway coat, shepherd's plaid trousers, and a cap with a large peak, and out of doors carried a plaid over his shoulder. His manner was brusque, and he was fond of a rough sort of chaff, but no one had a kinder heart."¹

She married Sir William Henry Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch, son of Sir Walter Francis Montagu Douglas Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Lady Charlotte Anne Thynne, on 22 November 1859 at London, England.¹ She died on 16 March 1912 at age 75 at Dalkeith House, Midlothian, Scotland.² She was buried on 20 March 1912 at St. Mary's Chapel, Dalkeith, Scotland.²

     Lt.-Col. Lord Herbert Andrew Montagu Douglas Scott was born on 30 November 1872.¹ He was the son of Sir William Henry Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch and Lady Louisa Jane Hamilton.¹ He married Marie Josephine Edwards, daughter of James Edwards, on 26 April 1905.¹ He died on 17 June 1944 at age 71.¹
     Lt.-Col.      Hon. Margaret Brand was born in 1873. She was the daughter of Henry Robert Brand, 2nd Viscount Hampden and Susan Henrietta Cavendish. She married Brigadier-General Algernon Francis Holford Ferguson, son of Colonel John Ferguson, on 21 April 1897. She died on 27 September 1948.
     Her married name became Ferguson.

     Henry Robert Brand, 2nd Viscount Hampden was born on 2 May 1841. He was the son of Henry Bouverie William Brand, 1st Viscount Hampden and Eliza Ellice. He married, firstly, Victoria Alexandrina Leopoldine de Weyer, daughter of Sylvain de Weyer, on 21 January 1864 at Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. He married, secondly, Susan Henrietta Cavendish, daughter of Lord George Henry Cavendish and Lady Louisa Lascelles, on 14 April 1868. He died on 22 November 1906 at age 65 at London, England.
     Henry Robert Brand, 2nd Viscount Hampden gained the title of 2nd Viscount Hampden. He succeeded to the title of 24th Baron Dacre in 1892. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.¹
     

     Henry Bouverie William Brand, 1st Viscount Hampden was born on 24 December 1814. He was the son of Colonel Henry Otway Brand, 21st Baron Dacre and Pyne Crosbie. He married Eliza Ellice, daughter of General Robert Ellice, on 16 April 1838. He died on 14 March 1892 at age 77 at Pau, France.

     According to his will, he had six children by a Mrs. Sarah Atkinson. He also appears to have had a son and three daughters by an Elizabeth Jenkins.⁴ Lady Louisa Stuart called him "a man of mean understanding and meaner habits," and added that after his first wife's death "he plunged into such low amours, and lived so entirely with the lowest company, that his person was scarcely known to his equals, and his character fell into utter contempt."²
