     Walter Long was born on 2 March 1840 at Hampshire, England.1 He was the son of Walter Jervis Long and Emily Jane Gale.1 He married Fanny Vansittart, daughter of Colonel Robert Vansittart and Harriet (?), in 1886 at Berkshire, England.1 He died on 9 May 1919 at age 79 at Hampshire, England.1 He was buried on 13 May 1919 at Upham Church, Upham, Hampshire, England.1
     On 1 March 1901 he sold the manor of Preshaw, which had been in the Long family since 1728.1
