Colonel John Worthy Chaplin, V.C. was born on 23 July 1840.2 He married Isabel Thomson in 1871 at York, Yorkshire, England.2 He died on 18 August 1920 at age 80.2
He lived at Kenilworth Hall, Leicestershire, England.2 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).1 He was decorated with the award of the Victoria Cross (V.C.).1 He fought in the Capture of taku Forts on 21 August 1860, where he first to plant the colours on the fort, and was severely wounded.2
