Reverend Alan Brodrick was born on 1 January 1840. He was the son of Reverend William John Brodrick, 7th Viscount Midleton and Harriet Brodrick. He married Emily Hester Melvill, daughter of Philip Melvill, on 18 June 1867. He and Emily Hester Melvill were divorced in 1901. He died on 6 May 1909 at age 69.
