Lt.-Col. John Johnstone was the son of William Johnstone of Westerhall.2 He married Charlotte van Lore van den Bempdé, daughter of John van den Bempdé and Temperance Packer, on 1 December 1731 at St. Benet's, Paul's Wharf, London, England.1,3 He died in 1741 at Cartagena, Spain, killed in action.1
