General Alexander Campbell of Barcaldine was born in 1729.2 He was the son of John Campbell of Barcaldine and Margaret Campbell.2,3 He married Helen Sinclair, daughter of George Sinclair, on 1 August 1765.2 He died on 22 April 1779.2
General Alexander Campbell of Barcaldine gained the rank of Ensign in 1745 in the service of the Argyllshire Militia.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1747 in the service of the an independent company in the East Indies.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1753 in the service of the 1st Royals.2 He gained the rank of Major in 1757 in the service of the Montgomery’s Highlanders.2

Jean Campbell was born circa 1769.3 She was the daughter of General Alexander Campbell of Barcaldine and Helen Sinclair.2,3 She married Sir James Sinclair of Mey, 12th Earl of Caithness, son of Sir John Sinclair of Mey, 6th Bt. and Charlotte Sutherland, on 2 January 1784 at Thurso Castle, Thurso, Caithness, Scotland.3 She died on 2 April 1853 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.3 She was buried at Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.3
From 2 January 1784, her married name became Sinclair. As a result of her marriage, Jean Campbell was styled as Countess of Caithness on 8 April 1789.
